The Gateway Neighborhood Collaborative, led by PARTNER (Perth Amboy Redevelopment Team for Neighborhood Enterprise & Revitalization), successfully hosted a community shredding event during Earth Week, providing Gateway residents with safe and secure document disposal services.

With generous support from AARP New Jersey, the event helped protect residents from identity theft while promoting environmentally responsible practices. Despite rainy weather, the event saw strong participation, serving 40 carloads of residents and securely destroying nearly 3,000 pounds of sensitive documents.

“This event is a powerful example of how partnerships can directly benefit residents,” said an attendee of the event. “By providing access to secure shredding, we are helping families safeguard their personal information while contributing to a cleaner, safer neighborhood.”

The success of the event was made possible through the collaboration of AARP-NJ and dedicated community partners, including Cheryl Blackwell and Fred Burgos, whose on-site support helped ensure smooth operations throughout the day.

Community shredding events like this one align with broader efforts to strengthen neighborhood stability, promote financial safety, and enhance quality of life for residents in low- and moderate-income communities. These initiatives are part of PARTNER’s ongoing place-based strategy to deliver measurable community impact through programs that support housing stability, economic opportunity, and resident well-being.

PARTNER extends its sincere appreciation to AARP-NJ for its continued partnership and commitment to the Gateway Neighborhood.
